Senior Housing News Architecture & Design Awards Website Redesign

Award-winning redesign that boosted engagement and scaled design systems across six publications.

The Challenge

The Senior Housing News Awards site was outdated, hard to navigate, and failed to capture the prestige of the program. Engagement had plateaued, and the sales team needed a digital platform that would excite both users and advertisers.

The Approach

I led the UX redesign from discovery through delivery, using Figma for prototyping and building scalable design systems. I introduced a consistent component library, mentored junior designers, and partnered with developers to ensure seamless WordPress integration. Beyond visuals, I designed workflows that streamlined ad placements and content delivery. I also oversaw annual website updates, from refreshing the entry form to managing nominees and winners.

Figma wireframing

We used Figma specifically for its collaborative tools. Each designer and developer on the team had access to the latest version without dealing with outdated exports or endless email attachments. All team members could view, comment on, and co-edit designs directly in the browser, streamlining feedback and reducing back-and-forth communication. Features like shared libraries, version history, and live cursor tracking made it easy to maintain consistency across projects and ensure transparency in the design process.

Entry Form Redesign

Each year, I refined the entry form presentation based on feedback from past nominees and winners. The goal was to make the file easy for entrants to use while ensuring it captured the information and photos our designers needed for the website. Hundreds of nominees were then added annually to the WordPress layout, built with the Gutenberg plugin. Below is an example of the 2025 entry form presentation.
